How to Know When It's Time to Replace Your Tires

Your tires are the only point of contact between your vehicle and the road. Worn-out tires can seriously impact your safety, fuel efficiency, and ride comfort. But how do you know when it’s time to replace them?

1. Tread Wear

Use the penny test: Insert a penny into the tread with Lincoln’s head down. If you can see all of Lincoln’s head, it’s time to replace the tire. You can also check the tread wear indicators built into most modern tires.

2. Cracks or Bulges

Visible cracks, sidewall bulges, or cuts can indicate structural damage. Driving on a damaged tire puts you at risk of a blowout.

3. Tire Age

Even if the tread looks fine, tires over 6 years old may need replacing due to rubber deterioration. Check the DOT code on the sidewall for the manufacture date.

4. Vibration or Noise

Excessive vibration while driving could mean your tires are unbalanced, misaligned, or damaged.
